The next family ball night in Byemoor will be on Thursday, July 27 at 7 p.m. All families are welcome to come and enjoy an evening of ball fun.

Keep in mind the Endmoor Ball Tournament is coming up August 18 – 20 in Byemoor. Enter your teams by contacting Rae at 403-741-6375.

There is still an opportunity for someone to operate the concession for the tournament. Anyone interested should contact Rebecca Schofer.

Now is also the time to be thinking of your entries for the parade that goes on Saturday, August 19 at 11 a.m.

The weekend features three days of slow-pitch, fireworks, pancake breakfasts, a parade, a Kid’s Carnival and a dance.

Happy 80th Birthday wishes are sent to Joan (nee Schultz) Mohl on July 17. She celebrated the occasion with a family gathering at Brooks. Congratulations on your special milestone birthday, Joan.

Congratulations to Tyson Keith of Byemoor who has been named head coach by the Lacombe Minor Hockey Association of the Central Alberta Selects U11 HADP team for the 2023-24 season.

Tyson played his minor hockey years in Byemoor, Stettler and Red Deer. He played Midget AAA in Medicine Hat before playing for the AJHL for three seasons with Drumheller and Lloydminster.

Tyson, along with his wife Kary Lyn and children Jace, Boden and Kinsey, operates a cattle farm near Byemoor and he is also an oilfield operator for CNRL.

Congratulations to Casey and Kelsey Wilkie on the birth of their daughter Charlee Faith Wilkie on July 19 in Stettler. Charlee weighed six pounds 11 ounces. She is a little sister to Samantha, Allison and Connor.

Also, congratulations to the grandparents, Don and Wanda Wilkie and Greg and Karen Hayden.

Congratulations to Jim Nill who was born in Hanna, one of three children of Ed and Maxine Nill, on being named the NHL’s General Manager of the Year. The Nill family has some connections to the Endiang area as Jim’s dad Ed Nill, one of eight children of Chris and Ottilie Nill, was raised on the family farm south of Endiang.

Jim has been the General Manager of the Dallas Stars for about 10 years. His hockey career started by playing hockey in Hanna, Drumheller and Medicine Hat as well as a year at the University of Calgary. In 1980, Jim was on the Canadian National team in the Olympics, which was a growth experience for him. Jim’s NHL career, which began in 1982, took him to St. Louis, Vancouver, Boston, Winnipeg and Detroit. In management, he spent 19 years with Ottawa and Detroit before going to Dallas. The honour of the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year award is the icing on the cake of Jim Nill’s distinguished hockey career.

Happy Birthday wishes are sent to these seniors — Gordon Groat celebrating his 81st birthday on July 30, Art Gutsche celebrating his 93rd birthday on August 1 and Margaret Jones marking her 88th birthday on August 3. We hope you all enjoy your special day.
