Bashaw Rebel Report

Kennedy Hunter and Melissa Johnson

As we see the 2017-2018 school year coming to an end, staff and students in our building are buzzing with activity.

Grade 8 students are currently preparing for an inter-school debate tournament against the Donalda Junior High students. The event is scheduled for June 18 and will be held at the Donalda School.

Our custodian, Mr. Wayne Wilson, is retiring at the end of June. Students and staff planned a day full of special activities for him on June 13 — we affectionately called it “Mr. Wilson Day.”

Mr.Wilson, we so appreciate your work and mentorship — we wish you luck on your next journey!

On June 14, the Elementary students competed in a track and field day. Students participated in several track events throughout the course of the day. They received ribbons based on how well they did compared to their classmates. Senior high students and the Grade 9 class helped staff run the different events.

Our elementary students have been on a few year-end trips during these past few months, the Kindergartens to Grade 3s went to Fort Edmonton on May 29, the Grade 4s went to the Reynolds Museum in Wetaskiwin on May 8, and the Grade 5 and 6 students went to the Telus World of Science on June 11.

Bashaw School will be participating in National Indigenous Day on June 21. We will be spending the day learning about Indigenous culture.

“This past school year we have been given some amazing opportunities that we never got in the past, like Rebel block, a trip to Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, a ski trip to Canyon Ski Resort and Skills Canada, also in Edmonton,” stated Grade 10 student, Jessica Johnson.
