Alberta celebrates its provincial parks on the third Saturday of July with Parks Day.

Celebrated since 1990, the Government of Alberta has held celebrations at its nearly 500 parks scattered from one end of the province to the other, including close to home.

The 2023 celebration was held on July 15 and the provincial park in Rochon Sands celebrated by hosting a sandcastle competition.

Sign-up for the event cost $5, with the money being directed back towards prizes.

The event ran from 11 a.m. until noon and some of the competitors who took part created highly detailed builds.

Several highly-detailed sculptures won prizes in the competition.
