The cast and crew behind Castor Little Theatre (CLT) are gearing up for the theatre troupe’s latest production.

For 2024, CLT will be performing Hogwash, written by Barbara Pease Weber and directed by troupe veteran Doreen Blumhagen.

According to Blumhagen, Hogwash is one-part mystery and one-part comedy, focusing on an “incorrigible handful” of a family member who is “well-loved but hard to love.”

“We’re doing things a little differently this year,” said Blumhagen, in a recent interview.

“The marquee will remain covered up until after the first scene.”

Blumhagen also noted that the playbooks, which are usually at the tables, won’t be out until after the first scene either, to keep the mystery intact.

While a shorter play this year, Blumhagen says that by the time both acts and the intermission are accounted for the entire run-time will be around the two-hour mark.

Blumhagen says that while the play is laugh-out-loud funny, it is also family-friendly.

“I like my plays clean,” said Blumhagen.

The cleanliness of the play is one of the reasons the theatre group is forgoing Teen Night, an annual tradition, and instead inviting both schools for students of all ages to attend an afternoon performance on Feb. 22.

“It’s suitable for everyone,” said Blumhagen.

“It’s good, clean fun.”

Cast in the 2024 edition of the play involves a mix of veteran CLT members and newbies, according to Blumhagen.

“It’s a great mix of people from the area and new to the area.”

Harvey Brooks, a veteran of the Heartland Arts Troupe Society has taken on the role of stage manager.

Seven general shows will be running between Feb. 18 and March 2.

Brunch shows will be running on Feb. 18 and 25, at 12:30 p.m.

Dinner theatre shows will be running on Feb. 23, 24 and March 1 and 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Two separate caterers will be supplying the meals for the production, depending on the day.

A general performance, without a meal, will take place Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by contacting Rob Nichols at 403-741-2069 or, new in 2024, purchasing online at castorlittletheatre.com.
