Stettler Variety Showcase’s third show of the 2023-24 season is right around the corner and will feature folk-inspired husband-wife duo Charms.

Denis Dufresne and Meg Konschuh began touring together towards the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, though they have both been professional musicians in their own right for over 30 years.

“We have a fair bit of original material,” said Dufresne.

“We both sing, we both play instruments.”

The duo will perform two 75-minute shows on Sunday, Jan. 28 at Stettler’s Performing Arts Centre.

Dufresne describes the music they perform as a blend of rock and bluegrass, heavily inspired by musicians Robert Plant and Alison Kraus.

The afternoon show will start at 1:30 p.m. and the evening show will start at seven. According to Dufresne, with the back catalogue of music the duo has they will be performing two different shows.

“It keeps us on our toes,” said Dufresne.

Before forming Charms, Dufresne and Konschuh each had separate solo careers, working corporate gigs, weddings, and performing with other groups.

Dufresne says he has been through the Stettler region several times before performing with various groups.

According to the Stettler Variety Showcase website, Konschuh is “Western Canada’s Premier Bollywood Violinist”

and Dufresne is the current Canadian Country Music Association Fiddle Player of the Year.

Tickets for the show are available at Grate Kitchen Shoppe.
