Stettler Variety Showcase (SVS) closed its season on April 30 with both a solo and duo performance.
The show was opened by Jenn Beaupre, who played a mixture of her own songs and some covers. Between songs, she told stories of growing up in Drumheller and wanting to be a musician when she got older.
Lewis Frere then joined Beaupre on stage making it a duo. The two continued with the mix of original works and cover songs, occasionally teasing the audience by free-playing portions of classic songs but only singing a couple of lines they actually knew.
Despite the two performers being of different generations, they have performed together on multiple occasions having great chemistry between each other and engagement with the audience. They shared stories of joint experiences over the years. At times they even joked with each other about singing different octaves of songs, such as Frere’s attempts to sing a higher pitch for backup vocals for Aretha Franklin’s ‘Natural Woman.’
The performance was the last of the SVS 2022-23 season. Board member Sharon Rahn addressed the audience before introducing Beaupre, and Frere. Rahn thanked the audience for their continued support and expressed her wish to see them at next year’s concert series. Tickets for SVS programs can be purchased at Grate Kitchen and Gift on Main Street.
