Coronation Royal Performing Arts hosts sold-out show

The show featured Credence Clearwater Revival tribute band

The Coronation Community Hall was packed full of people for the latest installment of the 2023-24 Coronation Royal Performing Arts season.

According to organizers, around 226 tickets were sold for the Jan. 6 installment which featured Credence Clearwater Revival tribute band Credence Clearwater Reprisal.

The evening began around 6 p.m., with a catered meal. On the menu for the Jan. 6 show was ham, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, a couple of different salads and a wide variety of desserts!

To keep things fair, and random, tables were drawn to go up for food.

Around 7:30 p.m., the band hit the stage.

Playing two 45-minute sets, the band was very high-energy on the stage, playing covers from Credence Clearwater Revival and frontman John Fogerty’s solo career.

Intermixed between some of the songs, lead singer Drew Shalka, in the role of Fogerty, also gave some history on Fogerty and the music the band was performing.

Credence Clearwater Reprisal is an Edmonton-based group composed of Juno-nominated songwriter frontman Shalka and features Travis Topylki on lead guitar, Derek Chalut on drums and Alex Fedoruk on Rhythm guitar.

According to the band’s manager, Trent Schmiedge at Graffiti Music, Credence Clearwater Reprisal is a side project for the group, who normally perform as the 1960s-1980s inspired indie pop group FKB.

For the Coronation show, the band performed many of Credence Clearwater Revival’s classic library of songs, including “Susie Q,” Down on the Bayou,” I Heard It on the Grapevine” and many others.

After the band’s two sets, they came back on stage for a three-song encore.

Coming up next for Coronation Royal Performing Arts is a “Taste of Showcase” performance on Feb. 3.

Three acts will be performing at the show.

Zenon, Ryland Moranz and Travis Matthews will each be performing 45-minute sets for the evening showcasing a variety of musical talent, according to organizers.

During the Jan. 6 performance, it was also announced that the meal for the Feb. 3 show will be prime rib.

Show tickets can be purchased at L and C Bookkeeping or by calling 403-578-3838.
