Bashaw RCMP and fire crews had their hands full during a major weather event and four vehicle collision.

The incidents occurred Sept. 2 high winds and the collision. Police say there were minor injuries stemming from the incident but that Highways 53 and 56 were impassable for some time.

During the weather event RCMP Mounties from Bashaw and Stettler worked to inform residents at the summer villages of Rochon Sands and White sands to seek shelter due to a weather event.

Campers near Buffalo Lake also had to seek shelter.

“Police asked campers and residents to seek shelter and get off the lake as quickly as possible,” states a press release. “The public remained calm and cooperated with police direction and at this time there have been no reports of injuries.”

Police added they will assess the damage during daylight hours, however, it is believed to have been relatively minor.

At the time of the weather event police say that the high winds released calcium chloride — which occurs naturally along a portion of Highway 53, which is when the collision occurred.
