Battle River School Division (BRSD) announced on March 15 that it had received a donation to assist its summer reading program.

Battle River Community Foundation (BRCF) donated $60,000 to BRSD’s summer Reading University program.

The funding will support program locations in Camrose, Tofield and online sessions held mornings and afternoons during the summer, though exact dates have yet to be finalized.

“Reading University is geared toward improving reading skills for students Grade 2 and up,” states a release from BRSD announcing the funding.

“This fun-filled, skill-building four-week summer program is packed with activities for young learners. It offers an experience that demonstrates how reading and learning can expand the horizon for life’s adventures.”

Youth participating in the program will participate in field trips, and special events, and have special guests visit the program to read and connect with students.

“The goal is to engage students in a fun and collaborative learning environment while they improve their reading skills,” continues the release.

Reading University is a joint program between BRSD and BRCF which has been hosted for over a decade and has seen hundreds of students complete it.
