A former Stettler woman is mourning the loss of her missing son after his body was found Saturday about 9:30 a.m. in a creek near Billings, Montana.

Cameron Collin, 37, was in Montana for a wedding when he disappeared Oct. 4.

“The family of Cameron Collin can confirm that the Yellowstone County Sheriff personally called and informed us they had found our son Cameron’s body in a creek near Billings MT,” said his mother Marion Collin (nee Hennel).

His death is a loss to many.

“Cameron has friends and family worldwide from Australia to Sweden but particularly in Canada where he has grown up and worked in the energy sector and in most USA states working from east to west and from Texas to the Canadian border. He is dearly loved by thousands and will leave a huge six-foot-five gap in many many hearts.”

Cameron grew up in the Airdrie area.

“Cameron was always our super athlete throughout school years and college, playing volleyball at the national level,” said Marion. “The SAIT Trojans won Silver that year in the Canadian championships. It was with huge pride years later that we watched our volleyball spiker walk across the stage at Montana Tech, Butte, MT with a university degree Petroleum Engineer. He always wore his engineering ring with pride.

There will be a service at Airdrie United Church and time to visit at Town and Country. The date is yet to be determined. Donations in Cameron Collin’s memory may be made to Airdrie United Church – general fund.

“The Collin family thanks all the uplifting thoughts and prayers and church groups across the globe that held Cameron and us in their hearts this long, long four weeks,” said Marion. “We now ask for privacy as we bring Cameron home to Canada to be home with us once more.”

A press release issued Saturday by the sheriff’s office said there’s no indication of foul play. An autopsy will be done Monday to determine the cause of death.
