Coronation Royal Performing Arts hosts trio of up and coming artists

Around 160 people were in attendance at the latest offering by Coronation Royal Performing Arts (CRPA).

Held on Feb. 3, the Taste of Showcase featured three different artists performing in three very different genres of music.

The evening started around 6 p.m., with a supper of prime rib, which was donated by a local supplier, and accompanied by potatoes, carrots, taco pasta salad, a lettuce salad, buns and a wide variety of desserts.

Following supper, the first artist, folk singer Travis Matthews, hit the stage around 7:30 p.m.

Each singer was given a 45-minute set with which to perform.

Matthews performed several original songs as well as some well-known classics, including one by Dolly Parton.

Following a short intermission, soul, rhythm and blues artist Zenon took the stage for their set.

Zenon performed mainly original songs, including one about their “quarter-life crisis.”

During the second intermission, CRPA’s own Heather Craigie took to the stage, telling some jokes and keeping the audience laughing as the final singer of the evening prepared for his set.

The final singer of the evening was a bluegrass singer, Ryland Moranz.

Moranz started on the banjo before switching to the guitar. He played a number of original songs as well, including his own “existential crisis” song.

Through his set, Moranz told many stories as well, even recounting his prior day’s adventure, sleeping outside at the Kamloops airport so he could catch his flight to make the Coronation show.

The final show of the 2023/24 CRPA season will take place on March 16 when the Raine Hamilton String Trio takes to the Coronation stage.

Tickets are still available by calling Linda at 403-578-3838.
