With help from residents in the area, Bashaw RCMP were able to locate a large amount of stolen property and arrest suspects involved.

Police say two trucks were observed leaving an abandoned residence on Nov. 18 at a high rate of speed in Ferintosh.

Believing the residence may have been victim to a break and enter, police were dispatched.

One truck, described as being a grey Ford dually with no licence plate, failed to stop for Wetaskiwin RCMP and fled with a single male occupant inside. The second truck was eventually located and the driver was subsequently arrested.

Bashaw RCMP attended the residence in Ferintosh at which point a utility trailer was located on the property. Checks revealed the trailer was stolen out of Bawlf. Two stolen sleds were located inside the garage along with a log splitter stolen from Camrose.

A search warrant was executed at the residence at which point three more individuals were located, arrested and charged. Several police officers and detachments worked together on this file resulting in the four individuals facing multiple charges.

The RCMP would like to thank the rural residents in the Ferinstosh area who were integral in assisting police with this investigation.

Break in at Asker Lutheran Church

Police received a report of a break and enter to the Asker Lutheran Church on Nov. 23. The front door was pried open and the church was ransacked.

A shed at the Bashaw Golf Course was also broken into and tools were stolen.

Open liquor and firearms located

Bashaw RCMP and Lacombe County protective Services participated in a joint forces operation in the Alix area Nov. 30 checking approximately 80 vehicles, issuing 12 violation tickets and five written warnings.

During this operation, officers encountered individuals with open liquor in a vehicle and in possession of three firearms that they were not legally entitled to possess.

Bashaw RCMP seized the firearms and charges are pending.

Crime prevention tips

Crime prevention is a shared responsibility.

Members of the community are reminded of their role in preventing criminal activity:

• Lock up houses, sheds, vehicles and any other property that is easily accessible;

• Never leave running vehicles unlocked. Nearly half of the vehicle thefts in Alberta over the past year have had the keys left inside;

• Take photos and record serial numbers of property;

• If you see or suspect suspicious activity notify police immediately;

If you have any information regarding any of the above mentioned incidents that may lead to an arrest, please contact your local RCMP Detachment at 780-672-3342 during business hours or Crime Stoppers Tips at 1-800-222-8477.
