It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon James Blonke announces his passing on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023, at the age of 78 years. Gordon was born on January 12th, 1945, in Lacombe, Alberta, to Walter and Rhea Blonke. He was the fourth of seven children raised on the family farm west of Bashaw. This is where Gordon gained his strong work ethic that was evident throughout his lifetime. On September 23rd, 1967, he married the love of his life, Cheryl. They welcomed their son, Warren, in 1968 followed by their daughter, Lori-Ann, in 1970. Gordon and Cheryl moved to their beautiful acreage northwest of Bashaw in 1974, where they remained for the rest of their days. Gordon was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family. He was the proud owner of Blonke Enterprises Ltd., and a talented caterpillar operator. Gordon would jokingly say how he had made his "mark" in life, referring to the numerous roads he built throughout the province. In his later years, Gordon looked forward to traveling to Arizona with Cheryl in the winter. He also enjoyed attending air shows, collecting John Deere tractors, growing his garden, and working in his yard. But his greatest joy came from spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Gordon was a courageous man with a kind and gentle spirit. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his children: Warren (Marnie) Blonke, Lori-Ann (Mark) Rothfos; grandchildren: Donovan, Nolan, Julia, and Luke; siblings: Alan (Annamarie) Blonke, Frank (Noreen) Blonke, Karen (Larry) Evans, Bonnie (Edwin) Miller, and Doreen Zavitz; as well as extended family and cherished friends. Gordon was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Cheryl, his parents Walter and Rhea Blonke, and brother John Blonke. A Celebration of Gordon's Life was held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18th, 2023, at the Bashaw Community Centre. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
