Fine individual and collective play by a local high school team resulted in a first-place finish at Zones. The Bashaw Boys Senior Volleyball Team had straight-set wins over the Castor Raiders, New Norway Spartans, Alix Mustangs, and others in the two-day event held at Bashaw School, November 17-18.

“I am certainly proud of our boys. Their level of play was simply outstanding from start to finish,” says Rachel Seale, Co-Coach. “It was gratifying to see them execute play after play at such a high level. We definitely saved our best for this tourney.”

A victory at Zones qualified the Rebels to compete at the Provincial Finals held at Vermillion the following weekend. The team struggled early in the rounds, but presented a serious challenge to the eventual tournament winner, St. Jerome High School, losing a close one in the second set (25-23).

“We got out to an early lead, but they managed to overtake us in the end. It was disappointing because who knows what could have happened if we’d gotten to a third set?” says Seale.

Bashaw eventually placed sixth out of the twelve teams that qualified for Provincials. This is the first time the Bashaw boys have so qualified.
