The third annual Bashaw Fire Department golf fundraiser Aug. 25 showed strong support from residents.

Organized by Loren Jacobs, the fundraiser is meant to help the department out in times of need or with certain operational or logistical costs.

And with such strong community support the department also tries to support both golf courses in Bashaw, which is why it was held at Country 9 this year.

“The funds are general funds for the fire department,” said Jacobs.

“There’s a lot of things on the want/need list.”

He added that the department does rely quite heavily on the financial support from the Town of Bashaw and Camrose County, however, expenses can add up quickly for the volunteer fire department.

Jacobs added that for such a small community, the support is something the department is grateful for.

Last year’s fundraiser — the second year — raised about $3,500 so the hope is to increase that this year.

“That almost doubled what we made for the first year,” said Jacobs.

New Fire Chief Jordan Lee said the department is also seeing strong support from volunteer firefighters with 26 on the roster. The town is insured for 30.

“We got four new members in the last month or so,” explained Lee.

There were hole prizes, silent auction items and other opportunities to provide financial support to the fire department. Full fundraising dollars weren’t available at press time.
