For the Bashaw Star

The Bashaw United Church started a couple of new groups and programs this summer to help the community.

In early June of this year, the church launched a grief support group where those who have lost someone or gone through something traumatic can find a safe place to discuss and heal with members of their community.

“Our goal right from the start was to make the group what people needed it to be,” said Robin King, minister of Bashaw United Church.

The meetings take place every second Wednesday at 7 p.m. There is also a children’s group that takes place at the same time.

While the adult group focuses on discussion, the children’s group includes a story or activity to help facilitate conversation and healing.

The group is run by King and Carrie Domstad, both experts in pastoral care. Domstad also works at Bashaw and Area Community Resource Centre, so she can direct visitors to any services they may need.

Another recent program at the Bashaw United Church is the Cyber Cafe happening Tuesdays and Thursdays every week.

The program is run by Charissa Splane. If someone has a gadget they’d like to learn more about or even solve a simple problem, Splane is there to assist.

There are also snacks and comfortable chairs, so visitors are more than welcome to show up and use their laptops and Wi-Fi. They even have coffee and snacks available as well.

King mentioned that the Bashaw United Church is always looking for volunteers.

More information on these programs or on volunteering can be found on their Facebook page. You can also call the church at 780 372 3891.
