Following a bit of a false start, the Bashaw and District Chamber of Commerce managed to hold its agm earlier this month.
Originally set for Jan. 23, there wasn’t enough members to hold the meeting so it was moved to Feb. 5 and a pair of executive positions have been filled by new individuals.
While Dustin Hemingson remains as the president, Jamie Turcotte from Servus Credit Union has assumed the vice-president role with Cindy Orom taking on the treasurer position. Bill Sinclair will be staying on as a director with Peter Graham giving up the vice-president role to be a director.
“A big thanks needs to go to Jamie and Cindy for all the work they put in, even without being on the executive. Between the both of them, they did a lot for the chamber,” said Hemingson.
He added the improved Santa Day event was mostly organized by the pair, “And it was very successful, as all the activities were very busy.”
That leaves the chamber still searching for a secretary. For now, all members of the executive are doing something in order to get the job done.
Hemingson did state there remains room for other members wanting to help out, either as a director or simply to assist on projects on an individual basis.
Concerning the membership, it was also noted at the meeting that invoices for members along with a new application form have been issued. The hope is to have a list of members updated early next month with all those having paid up.
Hemingson noted the chamber’s Christmas Bucks program was a great success and that the chamber is pleased to receive any more feedback people have regarding the two events.
One change was approved at the meeting, which may see the AGM moved to March. Hemingson explained the move was a result of discussion among the members, feeling there would be a greater turnout with the meeting a bit further away from the holiday season.
Before the change is finalized, two things have to occur — the move must be allowed under the Alberta Societies Act and no member objections filed within 30 days after the motion was passed on Feb. 8.
The membership was also encouraged to make use of the chamber’s event board and online presence — via Facebook and the website (www.enjoybashaw.com) — by reaching out with an email to email@example.com along with watching for future chamber hosted events on the two sites.
