Bashaw’s handivan is a service meant for the entire community.

Managed by BDSS (Bashaw and District Support Services), the service is designed to be an affordable option for those who need it, explained Sarah Unsworth.

While the Bashaw Bus Society’s goal is to provide wheelchair transportation for clients, it’s also there for anyone who needs a ride.

The bus can take 12 people and two wheelchairs and makes regular trips to Camrose.

“We are going to Camrose twice a month (second and last Thursday of the month) and it is affordable,” explained Unsworth.

Round trip to Camrose is $15 per person, however, the bus also stops in at Edburg, Ferintosh and New Norway with tickets being $10 per person for those routes.

The bus also makes trips into Bashaw every Tuesday for those who need help with errands and shopping, said Unsworth. Tickets are $6 per person, again, for anyone who needs the bus.

For groups looking to make a big shopping trip to Red Deer or Stettler, the bus can also be chartered for $30 per hour, plus 75 cents per kilometre.

The ticket prices help pay for the drivers and maintenance, said Unsworth, adding that there are also volunteer opportunities if people are interested.
