A staple in Bashaw is the Farmers Bonspiel, which got its first start back in 1983. In the Jan. 19, 1983 edition of the Bashaw Star, the First Annual Farmers/Businessmens’ Spiel was highlighted with these curlers putting in extra effort on their fancy brooms. At this bonspiel there were a total of 32 rinks consisting of 96 farmers and 28 businessmen competing for top honours. For the 2018 edition, the spiel is set to start relatively soon. Star photo
