A series of free sessions for parents in Bashaw are designed to help folks wanting suggestions in better dealing with some common childhood issues.
The Triple P Training sessions — being hosted at the Bashaw Public Library and delivered by the Camrose Family Resource Centre (CFRC) — will feature group discussions on topics that vary from managing aggression and developing good habits, to finding ways to get chores done without having to struggle with breakdowns or interruptions.
“The program is a great resource for parents with children ages two to 12 that are struggling with specific behaviour concerns,” said Krista Lantz, CFRC early childhood program coordinator.
“The objective is to increase the parents’ confidence and competence in dealing with these behaviours.”
The sessions will run each Thursday for four weeks — Jan. 17, 24, 31 and Feb. 7 — from 6 to 8 p.m. with dinner being provided and childcare being made available.
Lantz noted the topics featured will include dealing with disobedience, managing fighting and aggression, developing positive bedtime routines and hassle-free shopping with children.
“The sessions are designed as a group discussion with parents watching DVD segments to help prompt discussion, followed by some step-by-step suggestions about preventing and managing the problem behaviour and difficult parenting situations,” she added.
“There is also a workbook for them to take home.”
Lantz also hoped that having a dinner and childcare would help make it easier for more parents to attend.
