A new mural in Bashaw’s downtown is adding to the community’s aesthetics.

Created by Mary Kinsella, the mural is part of the work of the town’s beautification committee. The mural depicts a street scene that leads west into the plains and farm fields and includes children and cows running through the street.

It took about three weeks to paint.

Nestled in between the museum and Bashaw Hotel, the mural is actually on a gate allowing building owners access into the space behind it, explained Kinsella.

The hard work was really getting a welder out to ensure the gate was made with the right strength, plus transporting the large wood boards once it was complete.

“The actual painting, that’s half the battle,” said Kinsella.

“I think it’s kind of fun but I would like to see a little bit more done down there.”

Kinsella’s hope is to continue beautifying the area and eventually to have temporary art shows on the walls in that little space in the summertime.

The project was completed in August but due to inclement weather, installation wasn’t able to take place until recently.
