Bashaw School brought back an old tradition, and got the entire school involved in our own Winter Carnival on Feb. 15th.

Winter Carnival!

Celebrating winter with games from building snowmen to human curling. We had an amazing opportunity to have some fun.

All of Bashaw School’s staff and students gathered into their superhero teams, which were made at the beginning of the school year. The teams have students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

“In a K to 12 school, we have so much opportunity for mentorship. Having days where kids can interact with others that they wouldn’t normally interact with, and they can see older kids and look up to them, is very important,” said principal, Myranda Shepherd.

The teams competed in eight different events and were rewarded points for how well they did. In some events, like tug of war, teams competed against each other; in other events, like snow sculpting, the teams worked with each other.

Sarah Kohlman, a Grade 8 student on the superhero team, Batman, commented, “Overall I had a great time and I’m excited to do it again next year!”

The Grade 9 class and teacher, Amanda Swedberg, were responsible for most of the planning and organizing of the carnival. Grade 9 students also ran each event. They took on the responsibility of Winter Carnival organization during their language arts classes.

“The Grade 9s chose all the events. Our own Mrs. Swedberg worked with her class to make it happen,” said Shepherd.

The school supplied a hot dog and chip lunch for the students and staff. The lunch was prepared and delivered by Bashaw Meats.

“We have done the Winter Carnival in the past. It will grow from here and it will start to be a tradition again,” Shepherd added.

The Bashaw School’s Rebel Report is a new bi-weekly column submitted by Grade 9 students Kennedy Hunter and Melissa Johnson. We look forward to hearing more from our Bashaw School correspondents.
