New Red Deer City Councillor Chad Krahn will be officially sworn in on May 13 during a special council meeting.

The City of Red Deer announced the official results of the city’s first-ever byelection Friday, which was to fill the vacated seat after long-time councillor Michael Dawe passed away.

Krahn collected 2,512 votes, ahead of Jaelene Tweedle, who earned 2,355 votes. In third, Buck Buchanan (479), followed by Hans Huizing (281), Linda Cullen-Saik (296), Jason Chilibeck (287), Calvin Yzerman (183), Ashley McDonald (165), Mark Collings (115), Liam Milaney (29).

Returning officer Jessica Robinson said Thursday that 6,802 ballots were cast out of a total eligible voter pool of about 80,000 Red Deerians — which is about an 8.5 per cent turnout.
