For more than a century, the Bashaw Star has served readers and that top-notch coverage isn’t going anywhere.

But as we all know, change is constant and as technology continues to broaden the means by which we consume local news, it is imperative local news media adopt, adapt and advance to best serve the needs and wants of the communities we serve.

With that, we are excited to announce a number of changes in store.

As of May 16, the Stettler Independent’s print edition, will provide the same great coverage you’ve come to know and love. It will be delivered by mail in Bashaw on Thursdays.

This means the new Stettler Independent will offer a broader scope of local and regional stories, with the same great coverage you’ve come to expect over the years.

Of course, the paper will continue to be complemented by our timely, comprehensive multi-media coverage available at stettlerindependent.com.

Current Bashaw Star and Castor Advance subscribers will continue to receive the Stettler Independent and enjoy all the features of our website.

“I am excited for this new change and the opportunity to expand local and regional coverage to readers in Bashaw and Castor and beyond,” said Daria Zmiyiwsky, president of Black Press Media prairie division.

“This new product allows us to continue serving readers with an expanded print product while continuing to grow and enhance our online presence to better meet the needs of the communities we serve.”

Today, in more than 70 communities in Western Canada, Black Press Media is your window to what’s happening in your neighbourhood, your community, your province and beyond, with stories told by experienced, accountable journalists who uphold standards of truth, transparency and fairness.

In fact, as a trusted local source of news, Black Press Media has more journalists on the ground than any other news network in Western Canada.

Beyond the headlines, your community newspaper is also hard at work supporting the initiatives that mean the most to you, sharing details about coming fundraisers, sponsoring events that bring people together, and volunteering time and talent to make good things happen and effect positive change.
