The annual Bashaw Art Club show and sale has become a staple of showing off local artists and their work.
This year, there were a few first time artists taking part along with some more familiar names. One of those was the featured artist, Mary Kinsella, whose painting titled “Perennial Climbers” was the main showpiece of the May 5 event at the Happy Gang Centre.
“It’s my second time around,” as the featured Kinsella said.
“And the painting was taken from a sketch I did about three years ago from a visit to the small community of Coombs on Vancouver Island.”
The painting depicts a home built into the side of a hill and overgrown with vegetation that is now being used by a number of goats for their lunch.
“It took me about a week to complete the painting, working on it off and on,” she said, adding she’s been a part of the club and the show for about 20 years but that it never gets old for her.
As for the one-day show and sale, about two-thirds of the club participated with one or more pieces this year according to club spokeswoman Laurie Hall.
“We had about 15 artists take part and all of the pieces have never been in the show before,” she said.
“It’s been great seeing a steady flow of people, with several coming specifically to come check out the work of certain artists.”
Hall added it’s a great show since there isn’t simply one kind of art on display, as the art ranges from coloured pencil works to oil and acrylic paintings as well as decorated plates alongside portraits, landscapes and more abstract pieces.
