Bashaw RMCP, along with Emergency Medical Services, attended a vehicle collision fatality in Camrose County early in the morning on Nov. 9.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene: a 47-year-old female from Ponoka and a 50-year-old male from Maskwacis, Alta.
According to media relations officer Cst. Cheri-Lee Smith, the incident was called in to the RCMP, and although there was a collision of some sort, the cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
The RCMP and EMS responded to the scene at about 3:45 a.m., at the intersection of Highway 21 and Highway 611.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a grey van was travelling eastbound on Highway 611 when it failed to stop at the intersection of Highway 611 and Highway 21. The van came to a stop on the east side of the railroad tracks.
Smith confirmed a train was not involved.
Both occupants of the van were pronounced deceased on scene.
RCMP Police Dog Services, the RCMP Collision Analyst and CN police attended the scene.
No further updates are anticipated and the name of the deceased will not be released.
