The middle part of June was somewhat busy for the Bashaw RCMP detachment, with officers dealing with several incidents of theft.

It began on June 11 with Ford F150 pickup truck being stolen from a home in Alex, though it was later recovered in Red Deer.

However, a number of other reports were received of vehicles having been rummaged through with items including wallets, camera equipment along with money being stolen.

More thefts occurred in the area on June 13 that involved three separate properties.

Lease site tools stolen

Unknown suspects cut a lock on a lease site with various tools and equipment taken, as well as a gated yard in Mirror was entered after the fence was cut. Suspected entered the locked shed and subsequently stole more than $3,000 work of the power tools.

That day also saw a church broken into with a sound board, monitor, speakers and cables stolen. RCMP are still investigating.

Dump trailer stolen

In the overnight hours of June 14, a building was broken into at Red Deer Lake. The door was kicked in and a dump trailer was stolen.

In addition, a black Snowbear trailer was stolen from a yard south of Bashaw and a light green 2005 Arctic Cat 650 ATV was stolen from a yard in Ferintosh during the day.

The Bashaw RCMP strongly remind residents that crime prevention is a shared responsibility.

That means members of the community need to remember their role in preventing criminal activity by locking up houses, sheds, vehicles and any other property that is easily accessible; never leave running vehicles unlocked; take photos and record property serial numbers; and, call police immediately if you see or suspect suspicious activity.

If someone has any information regarding any of the above incidents, call the detachment at (780) 372-3793 during business hours or, if you wish to remain anonymous, contact CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
