Bashaw School teacher Kyle McIntosh may be getting a colourful new hairdo as incentive for the Grade 9 Leadership class fundraiser for the Saving Grace Animal Shelter and the Bashaw and Area Community Resource Centre.

How extreme the change will be, will depend on how much funds are raised. At $1,000, McIntosh will cut his hair, at $1,500 he will bleach it as well, and if the $2,000 target is hit, he will dye it a vibrant lime green and hot pink.

“Mr. McIntosh currently has shoulder-length hair … it’s very much a COVID cut,” said a response written by the Grade 9 class.

“We are cutting it down quite dramatically but so there’s enough (hair) left the dye is obvious. We are bleaching the hair first (at our second target) and then dyeing so it will be long-lasting,” they said.

“Mr. McIntosh has many commitments where he travels the province for the Alberta Teachers Association and we have enjoyed seeing teachers he knows from around the province reach out to make this happen.”

Two students have also volunteered to get a new look. In a colour swap, one student’s hair will be going dark, and the other is going light.

The funds raised will be split evenly between the two charities.

After the first week or so, the students had raised about $200 and are looking for more donations.

“We want to thank the community for their support so far and supporting these charities,” said a response written by the Grade 9 class.

“These groups haven’t had opportunities to fundraise in traditional ways so we wanted to help them.

“The shelter was hit both by COVID and then the extreme weather; meanwhile the Bashaw and Area Community Resource Centre has some needs (like winter attire) that our donation would help with.”

Those who wish to donated can reach out to any Bashaw School Grade 9 student (for cash donations) or contact McIntosh at kmcintosh@brsd.ab.ca for the Facebook donation link.

They can also make a cheque out to the school.

The deadline for the fundraiser is March 19.
