Hairz Amore Salon and C.B. Barber in Bashaw, owned by Rose and Cory Barritt, are fully booked until the end of June after relaunching last month.

The salon and barbershop opened the first day they were able: May 14.

Although it was short notice, they opened right away and Barritt says they’re “all in.”

Although Rose says they had some concern that the feeling of their business would change with the COVID-19 restrictions, she says it’s been the same, happy place as ever.

Although a few clients have been apprehensive and worried, there have been no complaints of the required face masks or use of hand sanitizer.

For the most part, people are happy and glad they’re open, says Rose.

One lady in her chair said Rose was the first person she’d talked to in two months, says Rose, adding hair salons are good for people’s mental health.

They have been “crazy busy” though, in part due to a rush of people coming in to have home-job hairdo’s fixed.

“We’ve seen some funny things,” she said, explaining quite a few men have come in with hair cuts half done that their wives started but didn’t complete, perhaps because of too much complaining.

With about 300 people coming in, in the first six days they were open, Rose says she’s spoken to a lot of people.

“Most people are very sick of it all,” she said, adding that the general consensus is, that if this is the new normal, then people need to get out and starting living in it.

She’s also heard that seniors wish that foot care, such as pedicures, had been allowed in the first phase of Alberta’s relaunch strategy, as many are unable to care for their feet themselves.

Hairz Amore and C.B. Barber are following all recommended health measures and restrictions, such as using hand sanitizer, wearing masks, and safety goggles at the sink or during blow drying.

Hair salons and barbershops are prohibited from providing face-to-face services such as ear trimming, hot shaves, eyebrow waxing or beard trimming at this time.
