Big Valley Bustout Rodeo action to take place July 28-29

Rodeo action is set to “bust out” of the Big Valley rodeo chutes July 28-29 when the Bustout Rodeo returns for another edition.

According to Tom Cassidy, one of the organizers for the event, it is looking to be a good show; so far nearly 270 competitors have registered for the two-day, multi-association-sanctioned event.

Three associations sanction the Big Valley rodeo; the Lakeland Rodeo Association, the Chinook Rodeo Association, and the Foothills Rodeo Association. The event features all the usual roughstock and timed events.

“There’s lots of riding event guys,” said Cassidy.

“And a lot of juniors.”

New for the 2023 rodeo edition will be the introduction of ladies’ breakaway roping, which has never been done in Big Valley before, according to Cassidy.

The rodeo will kick off, with a full concession and beer gardens, at 7 p.m. on July 28.

On July 29, a pancake breakfast will be hosted on the grounds at 9 a.m. before a slack performance starts at 10.

The second evening of rodeo action will then take place at 7 p.m. that same evening.
