On the afternoon of March 16, Camrose Police Service announced via social media that an arrest had been made and charges laid regarding a shooting in downtown Camrose on March 11.

The Camrose Police Service began seeking witnesses and information after a male driver reported that his vehicle was shot at multiple times while he was driving in the 4800 block on 50 Avenue. The driver suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries during the incident.

During the investigation, Camrose Police Service discovered that sometime in the overnight hours of March 9 and 10 an unoccupied vehicle two blocks away from the reported incident had also been shot, with Barkman identified as the person responsible in both instances.

While police questioned four people of interest, no charges had been laid as of March 13.

Following an investigation, Camrose Police Service, with the assistance of the Wetaskiwin and Central Alberta District RCMP Crime Reduction units, arrested Jason Brian barkman, 51, of Camrose for attempted murder, assault with a weapon, and ‘numerous other offences.”

A search of Barkman’s residence after the arrest resulted in the location and “siezure of several firearms, ammunition, and other evidence related to the shooting occurences.”

Barkman remains in custody with his first court appearance set for March 22.

According to the update from Camrose Police Service, the Camrose and District Victim Services Unit is actively supporting those affected.
