Camrose RCMP advise of scam using detachment’s phone number

Camrose RCMP are investigating after receiving reports from residents of suspicious phone calls.

In the calls, a suspect identifies themselves as an officer with the Camrose RCMP and asks for personal details from the victim including their social insurance number.

The suspect may advise the victim that there is a warrant for their arrest. The suspect appears to be using technology which makes the phone call appear to come from the Camrose RCMP detachment.

At this time, RCMP have confirmed that at least one person has fallen victim to this crime.

RCMP want to advise the public that police would never ask for your social insurance number or banking information. If you are unsure of the source of the phone call please call the detachment directly.
