The City of Lacombe/Lacombe County partnership got a boost from the provincial government during their council meeting on April 25, in the form of an Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) grant.

The ACP grant will be used for the functional plan of the south ring road connector and will cover 100 per cent of the project costs up to $200,000, and there is no requirement for the municipality to provide matching funds.

“Council is thrilled to partner with the Government of Alberta on the future of transportation in Lacombe,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “The south ring road connector is a critical development for alleviating future traffic concerns, and this plan will ensure this future road meets the needs of our growing community.”

The ACP funding received formal council approval at the April 25 regular meeting, allowing city staff to move on to the next stage of the project. City administration will work with staff at Lacombe County to secure an engineering consultant by the end of 2022 to lead the function planning process.

The city received letters of support for this project from the Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver, and Minister of Environment and Parks, Jason Nixon.

“Partnering with the province and our neighbours from Lacombe County will ensure this project meets the needs of all parties involved,” said Creasey.

The grant deadline to complete the functional plan is 2024.
