After a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Majestic Theatre in Bashaw is staging a comeback, slowly but surely.

Part of what helped them keep afloat while they weren’t able to host their usual dinner theatre productions was bringing in tribute artists.

The shows serve as fundraisers for the Friends of the Majestic Theatre as part of the ticket and bar sales go to the association.

The theatre recently hosted The Rolling Stones impersonators, which proved to be popular.

“This one was really rocking,” said Val Wandler, a director of Friends of the Majestic Theatre.

Next in the lineup of performers, provided through the promoter Trend Entertainment, is Elton John tribute artist Jeffrey Scott on June 16.

Scott gives an award-winning Elton John tribute performance and was the official entertainer for the opening of “Rocket Man” at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The evening will kickoff with cocktails at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m.

The theatre hosts between four or five tribute artist performances per year. The next one slotted for August is ABBA. The Bee Gees impersonators are expected around November.

The last theatre production the group was able to put on was likely The Book Club, back in April 2019, said Wandler.

The group is hoping to hold a dinner theatre show next year, but in the meantime, has a few other things in the works.

There is a family karaoke night planned for June 11 from 7 to 11 p.m. Admission will be by donation and there will be a cash bar. The evening is being hosted by Rubber Band Entertainment.

The theatre used to host drop-in jam sessions where musicians could come and play and people could hit the dance floor. While they may change that up a bit, they are working on bringing that back as well and hope to have it up and running by the fall.

The Majestic is also open for rentals again. To make a booking, contact Wandler at 403-588-9958.
