Bashaw’s Central Veterinary Clinic location has undergone a big makeover over the last several months, and while the clinic has been open during renovations, they anticipate the newly renovated areas will be opening for use as of June 7, 2021.

“It looks amazing,” said Laura Duckett, office manager of both the Bashaw and Ponoka locations, adding that they’re very excited for clients to come in and see the new space.

The vets and technicians have been using the large animal area in the back of the clinic as exam rooms.

There are now two additional exam rooms for a total of three, as well as a comfort room. Two older additions were knocked down to make room to expand in the back, and north towards the Legion, almost doubling the square footage of the clinic.

“By doing that, we’ve created a much larger reception area,” said Duckett, adding the enlarged space allows for more owners and their pets to wait comfortably.

To accommodate large animals, there is also a horse and bovine loading and unloading area.

In addition to renovations, the location has also added state-of-the-art diagnosis equipment over the last several months in order to become a full-service veterinary office.

There is now an x-ray, dental x-ray and portable x-ray machines for large animals, horse/bovine holding equipment, and new blood testing machines that eliminate the need to send out blood work for lab testing.

Installed back in January, the Complete Blood Count (CBC) machine counts red and white blood cells and the chemical analyzer tests for enzymes in the blood.

The clinic will still need to send out more in-depth testing to a lab, such as biopsies, as most veterinary clinics do.

“We can do a lot in-house which is nice,” said Duckett.

Starting on June 5, 2021, the clinic will be expanding its hours to Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also very exciting for the clinic, they anticipate having two full-time on location veterinarians by the fall.

With the two vet technicians and the receptionist, there will be five full-time staff members.

Currently, there is one vet on site at a time, on a rotating schedule with the veterinarians at the Ponoka location.
