A man lost his life in a collision last week near Stettler.

Stettler RCMP responded Mar. 25 around 7:30 p.m. to the scene on Highway 12 where a car heading west hit head-on with an east-bound semi-trailer near the community.

RCMP stated the driver of the car — a 57 year-old man — was pronounced deceased at the scene while the truck driver sustained some minor injuries.

The man’s name was not being released and police are continuing to investigate the cause. However, it was noted alcohol and drugs are not factors in the incident.

Funny Money

Take ‘note’ or maybe not, as RCMP are warning both businesses and individuals across central Alberta about some recent phoney bills being passed around.

Within the past couple weeks, at least a few businesses in Rimbey took in some counterfeit currency and police want the public to be on the lookout for the funny money.

According to police, the scam sees the holograms from legitimate $5 and #10 bills being taken out and taped in to fake $50 and $100 notes.

Dubbed ‘Frankenstein’ bills, these ‘cut-and-paste’ notes can be hard to spot if one fails to take a closer look.

Police want the public to be diligent in checking their money and make it harder on criminals to profit from it.

Anyone that may have been taken in on this scam or have information on any type of crime, contact your local police or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
