One of the biggest events of 2019 for the County of Wetaskiwin farm community seems to be coming along nicely, the construction of the G3 Canada grain terminal along Hwy. 2A.
Contacted through email June 27, G3 Canada responded, “Construction continues on G3 Wetaskiwin, with the project progressing safely and on schedule.
“Some of the significant milestones to date include pouring the concrete for the silos and beginning construction on the steel bins. The elevator is on track to be completed and in operation in late 2019.
“The facility’s administration building will be in place later this summer and G3 Wetaskiwin already has staff in the community building relationships with producers and contracting for off-farm and forward delivery.
“The project includes making some improvements to road infrastructure and we are confident that the work will proceed.
“Our main contractor, FWS Group, has engaged several businesses around Wetaskiwin, Camrose, Leduc, Nisku and elsewhere in the area for services and supply including earthwork, concrete, equipment rental, tool supplies, parts manufacturing, and waste hauling.
“Feedback from area producers about the new facility has been overwhelmingly positive, and G3 continues to engage the community in discussion. Just last week a large group of area producers met with G3 representatives for an update on the new elevator and G3’s network.”
The County of Wetaskiwin has been completing right-of-way purchases along Twp Rd 460, the municipal road which will feed the terminal. G3 Canada is responsible for upgrades to the 2A and 460 intersection.
