On Aug. 21, the Bashaw Pistol Club will host their annual barbecue and shooting tournament where members can compete for cash prizes.

The tournament will be held at the pistol range.

Formerly known as the trophy shoot, the event only allows handguns, according to club president Carrie Collins-Thomas.

Those who choose to participate will also need a restricted possessions and acquisition licence or, in the case for those under 18, must be accompanied by a licensed adult.

“There are three different classes that include centre-fire, 22 rim-fire, and open where participants will have their chance at the target and we’ll tally up the score at the end,” Thomas said.

The shoot starts at 1 p.m., with the barbecue to follow.

There will be prizes for both men and women’s classes with an aggregate payout. In each category, first place receives $50, second place wins $40 and third place wins $30. Lunch will be included, featuring burgers, smokies, a variety of salads and desserts, as well as drinks.

Membership is necessary to compete in the tournament and it has an annual cost of $40 for adults and $20 for those under 18.

“We want people to have an amazing time and have fun and we’re also welcoming spectators. We have a limited space but if people want to come out, ask questions, and see what it’s all about, absolutely,” Thomas said.

To attend the barbecue on Aug. 21, interested guests can RSVP by contacting Thomas at 587-877-5887.

To get to the range, go south of Bashaw on Hwy. 21, and travel 8.5 kilometres to the Milton-Gadsby turnoff, or Township Road 412. Turn east and drive for two kilometres to Range Road 21-5, then turn right and drive five kilometres past the stop sign and no exit sign.
