Camrose MLA Jackie Lovely has been appointed to the premier’s council on Charities and Civil Society for a two-year term.

Lovely received her letter of appointment on April 27, 2021, from the Minister of Community and Social Services, Rajan Sawhney.

The council is part of the provincial government’s commitment to “harness the power of civil society” to help address social challenges, states the appointment letter.

“This commitment builds on Alberta’s rich tradition of volunteerism, charitable giving, and communities coming together to solve problems.”

As part of the council, Lovely’s role will be to ensure public agencies are governed effectively and with accountability.

“I plan to meet with our local stakeholders and look forward to rich conversations,” said Lovely in a statement.

“I’m glad our UCP government is taking care of vulnerable women. Now that I have been appointed to the council it will give me a chance to learn what we need to do to continue to help women in our province.”

The council is a team under Minister Sawhney and they are appointed by Premier Jason Kenney.

The two-year term will end on Jan. 31, 2023.

”I am humbled and honoured to have the opportunity to do this important work on behalf of the province,” said Lovely.
