Ponoka, surrounding communities COVID-19 update

Ponoka County numbers hold steady

As of the end of the day on Jan. 3, 2021, (the latest available data) there were 53 active cases in Ponoka (East Ponoka County) and 12 active in Rimbey (West Ponoka County and partial Lacombe County) on the local geographic area setting of the geospatial map on alberta.ca.

Numbers have stayed about the same from a week ago, as there were 52 active cases in Ponoka County East and 13 active in Rimbey (Ponoka County West and partial Lacombe County) as of Dec. 29.

As of Jan. 5, the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre was still listed on ahs.ca’s outbreak list, although no case numbers were listed.

As of Jan. 4, 2021, there were 532 active cases in Maskwacis, with 798 recovered, 21 hospitalized and six deceased, according to Maskwacis Health Services.

There are 60 active cases in the City of Camrose and 22 in Camrose County.

Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw gave her first update of the new year on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

In her address, Hinshaw stated the province is still dealing with elevated numbers of the virus.

There has also been one new death in the central zone.
