During the April 4 Town of Bashaw council meeting, chief administrative officer Theresa Fuller informed council of rumours she had heard regarding the potential merger of the Bashaw and Stettler RCMP detachments.

Following up with RCMP media relations on April 11, it was learned that while high level discussion have been held regarding a potential merger, there are currently no immediate plans for a merger to happen.

It was also noted that if the RCMP were to merge detachments, studies would be conducted and community engagement would occur well in advance of any changes occurring.

Media relations officer Troy Savinkoff said that while the RCMP is always having high level conversations on how to make operations more efficient, nothing would be rushed into.
