Rimbey gets in Christmas spirit

The Christmas season is coming up and, in the true spirit of the holiday, several organizations in Rimbey are polling their resources to be be ready for it and spread some good cheer in the process.

Victim Services has joined up with Rimbey RCMP, Ponoka County West District Fire Department and Citizens on Patrol to hold its first ever charity check stop.

Chrlstine Stebanuk, Rimbey Victim Services program manager, said she is hoping it will become an annual event.

“They had it in Sylvan Lake when I volunteered there and it went really well. I thought it would be good for Rimbey, as well,” she said.

The charity check stop is to take place on Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 50th Ave. near 49th Street.

Motorists are asked to bring contributions of new unwrapped toys or non-perishable food items which will be donated to the Rimbey food bank.

Cash donations will go towards supplying the Christmas hampers made up by food bank staff and volunteers.

Motorists will have the option of driving around the check stop, but Sebanuk is hopeful people will get into the spirit of the season and donate.

“Help us to help those who are less fortunate in our community,” said Stebanuk.
