Video surveillance caught the suspects and both vehicles used in the early morning theft with police hoping someone can provide information that will lead to their arrest and the stolen guns.

Police are working diligently on catching the suspects in the brazen, early morning Bashaw Sports robbery on Dec. 7.

Bashaw RCMP Sgt. Bruce Holliday said in an interview that the community’s numerous video surveillance cameras are playing a significant role as the investigation and search for suspects continues.

“The town’s cameras, and those inside the business, have been key in furthering our investigation,” he said.

“A number of towns and villages in our jurisdiction have implemented camera systems in an effort to deter criminals as well as for the safety and security of the residents. Having our communities invest in this use of technology provides police with another avenue to enhance our investigations. That has greatly assisted us in being able to identify and arrest suspects in several investigations.”

The robbery took place around 4:30 a.m. with four suspects using a since recovered stolen blue or grey Chevrolet pick up to ram into the front entrance of the store. An estimated 20 to 25 firearms were then loaded into a white Chevrolet four-door truck.

Holliday stated that officers from his detachment are working closely with several specialized investigation units within the RCMP.

“The investigation remains ongoing,” he said.

“The white truck has not yet been located. However, with the work being done by our detachment with the support from the specialized units, there have been a lot of progress made on this file.”

The RCMP are still looking for information on who the four suspects are or the location of the white pickup truck.
