County of Stettler Deputy Reeve James Nibourg has been appointed as the president of the Alberta Seniors and Community Housing Association (ASCHA).
Nibourg, a 13-year Stettler County councillor, has served with the ASCHA for many years serving as both a director and and previous vice president.
“Being chosen the President of ASCHA is a true honour, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Albertans in this capacity,” said Nibourg, via a recent press release.
“I am excited to work alongside the dedicated members of ASCHA to advocate for the needs of seniors and ensure access to quality housing and community supports. Together, we will strive to make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.”
Stettler County Reeve Larry Clarke commented on Nibourg’s appointment.
“The County of Stettler is proud to have local council members like Mr. Nibourg, who generously give their time and talents to represent on provincial boards and advocate for these very important organizations,” said Clarke.
Made up of many member organizations which offer community and senior housing across the province, the ASCHA’s primary roles include advocacy and “member services” which ensure its members have “the education, best practices, and resources necessary to provide the very best housing supports to the individuals they serve.”
Members of the ASCHA represent over 60,000 housing units in 227 communities across Alberta, and 75 per cent of the housing which is available to seniors.
“The association has a unique mandate to champion the full continuum of community and seniors housing options, offered through the public, voluntary and private housing sectors,” notes the release.
The ASCHA president is elected by the membership at the organization’s annual general meeting.
“The President upholds the association’s core values and noble cause and is the official spokesperson on a variety of issues identified as priorities by the association,” states the release.
“The President is responsible for leading the Board through its governance practices and delivering on the priorities established in the association’s strategic plan. They are ex-officio on all ASCHA Board committees, responsible for maintaining relationships with government at all levels, and working with key allied organizations and partners.”
