The Stettler Health Services Foundation hosted one of its annual fundraisers on Aug. 12.
Over 80 golfers were in attendance at the Pheasantback Golf Course for the foundation’s annual golf tournament.
While the weather appeared to be initially unfavourable, it eventually “cooperated in the end, and the course was in good shape,” according to board member Mary-Jane Jackson, in an email release.
Wrapping up the day back at the clubhouse was a steak supper, prizes, and a silent auction with all funds raised going back into the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre for equipment needs.
Over $10,000 was raised through the golf tournament, with funds raised going towards the purchase of two Panda infant warmers and four Medifusion syringe pumps.
“Without community support, we couldn’t do it,” said Cheryl Barros, the foundation chairperson in a recent interview.
“It’s crazy how much our little town gives.”
The Stettler Health Services Foundation has been operating since around 1999; since that time the organization has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment and materials to the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre, including $400,000 towards Emergency Department upgrades and $250,000 towards Labour and Delivery.
Next up for the foundation will be the organization’s annual Festival of Lights, set to take place starting in the final week of November through to the beginning of December.
The 17 members of the foundation meet every two months during the year and are always looking for new members. Anyone interested in volunteering with the organization is asked to get in touch with current board chair Cheryl Barros at 403-740-2898.
