Youth, staff, and community organizations were showing their Canadian pride while bowling for a good cause.

The Heartland Youth Centre’s (HYC) annual Bowl-for-Kids fundraiser, the 34th edition of iconic fundraiser, was held Feb. 24 at Heartland Bowl in Stettler.

According to HYC executive director Winnie Bissett, the event went well with 24 separate business and organization teams raising funds and bowling for the event. In addition, 62 youth centre members and volunteers also took part.

The theme for the 2023 event was “Proud to be Canadian,” and costumes ranged from hockey players to snow flakes to mounties; one even dressed as the immediatly recognizable Tim Hortons coffee cup and another as a box of Tim Bits.

In its history, the Bowl-for-Kids has only been cancelled twice, in 1990 and in 2021. In the rest of the years, the annual fundraiser has raised thousands for the Stettler Big Brothers, Bigs Sisters program and the Boys and Girls Club.

Bissett says that the 2023 event raised around $23,000.
