The Hatchet is bringing the axe-throwing craze to Lacombe.

Melissa Myers, owner of The Hatchet, said construction on the facility began in March, but COVID-19 delayed the opening until July 1.

“We are from Lacombe and felt like Lacombe was missing entertainment for adults and kids. We had went axe throwing several times and absolutely loved it, so we thought it would be a great thing to open in Lacombe,” Myers said.

The business includes axe-throwing, pool tables, arcade games and is fully licensed. Myers added they came up with their concept after visiting many other axe-throwing facilities.

“We have definitely done a lot of different takes on it. We have been axe-throwing at a lot of different locations and saw how they have their environments set up. What we wanted to do was to have relaxing, fun home-like environment with our facility,” she said.

So far, they have already hosted birthday parties and have staggettes and Christmas parties already booked.

“We have a large facility with 14 axe-throwing lanes. It is spread out with enough space to allow patrons to come in, axe-throw and get their alcohol, but not be around anyone else,” she said, adding the spacing helps with AHS protocols for COVID-19.

“We are sanitizing everything before patrons come and when they leave. We are sanitizing all of our axes, pool tables areas, darts and arcade games.”

So far, the feedback has been positive.

“It has been amazing. We had some high school grads here and the next day, some of them came back with their families. People have loved it and people are saying it is something different in Lacombe,” Myers said.

She added, “I really appreciate the people of Lacombe and how generous they have been, even just coming down here to take a look.”
