September 23, 1928 - Penmaenmawr, North Wales, U.K May 4, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta
Joan Gorman beloved wife of Brian John Gorman (deceased), passed away on May 4 at the age of 90 years surrounded by family.
Joan was born in Penmaenmawr, North Wales on September 23, 1928. She was the oldest of three girls. Her sisters were very important to her throughout her life. After graduating from high school in Conway, North Wales she went to work for the government at the Inland Revenue in North Wales, London UK, Nottingham and Bristol from 1943 to 1955. The secretarial work she did included stenographer, shorthand and typing. Joan met Brian in 1952 and they were married in September of 1955. Joan's firstborn son Peter arrived on June 17, 1956. They immigrated to Canada in 1961. They settled in Bashaw, Alberta where she became very active in the Catholic women's league, chamber of commerce, and hospital auxiliary. She was instrumental in lobbying the government to get a Kindergarden started in Bashaw. Not long after arriving in Bashaw, Joan and Brian were blessed with two more children Alice and David. In 1975 they moved to Calgary. After a number of years Joan started to work with Brian as his secretary and office manager. Joan enjoyed many trips overseas with Brian including trekking in Nepal and New Zealand. Wherever Joan went people loved her. She made a lasting impression with her outgoing, flamboyant and bubbly personality. One of Joan's greatest joys in life was her relationship with her grandchildren. Joan had a strong personal relationship with her saviour Jesus Christ, through her fervent prayer life. She will be greatly missed.
Joan is survived by her children, Peter Gorman (Linda), Alice Jansen (Ed), David Gorman (Paula); six grandchildren, Sarah Schindel (Andrew), Theresa Jansen, Vanessa Malthouse (Steven), John Gorman, Catherine Gorman and David Gorman; and three great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Naamah and Judah Schindel. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her husband Brian Gorman, her sisters Valerie Marshall, Audrey Harris, her brother in laws Tom Harris and Jim Marshall, and her niece Susan Marshall.
