It is with profound sadness that the family of Kathryn Lois Whitehouse announces Mom's passing at the age of 88. Lois, as Mom preferred, lived a vibrant and wonderful life, the last 19 years of which were here in Calgary.
Mom was born in Toronto, Ontario. When she earned her degree in physiotherapy, she moved out west to start the next chapter of her life and begin an exciting and challenging career. While in Calgary, Mom met and fell in love with a strapping young RCMP officer named Gordon. They were married 43 years until sadly, Gordon passed away in 2002.
This incredible adventure with Gordon welcomed three children; Carol (Don, and grandchildren Derrick and Charlotte), Jim (Cathy, and grandchildren Andrew and Taylor), and Geoff (Alison). Mom is also survived by her brother Keith Millar of Burlington, Ontario.
Her adventure as an RCMP officer's wife included living in several cities, raising three unruly children, and eventually a "retirement" to farming life in Bashaw, Alberta. This was followed by another retirement to Vancouver Island, and then a return to Calgary in 2003 where she enjoyed a wonderful and rewarding life at the Manor Village at Garrison Woods.
Most of all Mom loved spending time with family. She also loved her time at the manor and pursued many interests. Mom was a cat lover at heart. She also enjoyed reading mystery novels; attending exercise classes; indulging in French language lessons; 4 wheeled hallway walker racing; daily excursions (as long as they included a sandwich); and most recently, painting.
Mom brightened every room she entered with an infectious laugh, a wonderful sense of humor, and a glowing smile. Anyone who was lucky enough to enjoy time with Mom commented on what a lovely, kind person she was, and what a joy it was to share a moment with her.
We would like to thank all the people at the Manor Village who cared for and loved Mom as if she was part of their own family. Mom loved her home at the Manor and cared deeply for everyone there. We share in your grief during this difficult time.
To all the staff at the Foothills Medical Centre, we cannot thank you enough. Your unwavering compassion, dignified, professional care, and incredible support provided to our family was so greatly appreciated. We are forever grateful for the amazing difference you made in every moment of Mom's final days there.
As a tribute to Lois, if you wish, please donate to your favorite charity in her name.
All arrangements will provided by McInnis and Holloway.
