Letter: MLA Jackie Lovely on the Critical Infrastructure Defence Act

‘It angers me that there are people that would block access to hospitals’

Dear editor,

I wanted to clarify some misinformation circulating in the Camrose constituency. One publication recently published a story about the government not taking protests outside of hospitals seriously. On Sept. 28, Premier Jason Kenney, Justice Minister and Solicitor General Kaycee Madu and Health Minister Jason Copping announced that the Critical Infrastructure Defence Act would be amended to include hospitals and other facilities where people in need of medical care would be protected under legislation the government passed last year.

The government has been crystal clear that it will not tolerate protests that get in the way of Albertans living their lives. As MLA of the Camrose constituency, it angers me that there are people that would block access to hospitals or that our healthcare workers would feel threatened for trying to get to work.

I encourage you to head to the government’s website to see all the details of the announcement made on Sept. 28. If you do not have access to the Internet, please call my office and we will be happy to explain the steps our government has taken to make sure people needing care, and the frontline healthcare workers giving that care, will be protected.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my office. We are always here for you.

MLA Jackie Lovely,

Camrose constituency
